Jamshedpur: Celebrating Palm Sunday at Mercy Chapel in Baridih, Fr. Gerry D’Souza delivered a stirring homily urging the faithful to trade symbolic devotion for true spiritual commitment.
Fr. D’Souza emphasized that Palm Sunday represents more than joyous “Hosannas”; it reflects a journey from praise to rejection. He noted that while crowds welcomed Jesus during his miracles, they abandoned Him when faced with truth and sacrifice. “We want to take selfies with Jesus, but are we ready to walk with Him?” he challenged the congregation.
Addressing modern hypocrisy, Fr. D’Souza questioned those who lead double lives—devout in prayer but unjust in action. He described this disconnect as shouting “Hosanna” on Sunday only to “Crucify” through their daily conduct. Real faith, he argued, requires humility and sacrifice, mirroring the selfless love Jesus showed even during betrayal and denial.
Fr. D’Souza concluded by praying that believers become “disciples of commitment” rather than “followers of convenience.” Fr. Edward Saldanha, Fr. Arvind, and Fr. Oscar Horo joined a large gathering of devotees for the service.
