During the visit, the SDO thoroughly evaluated the services provided at the One Stop Centre, which caters to women facing sexual harassment, psychological and economic abuse, and other forms of violence. The inspection included reviewing the availability of medical facilities, deputation of doctors, legal aid, counseling services, and police assistance. While interacting with the operators, it emerged that certain key services were hampered by infrastructural gaps.
Notably, the absence of a night guard has resulted in the lack of night stay facilities for victimized women, a crucial service for their safety. Additionally, issues like inadequate drinking water supply and the unavailability of cleaning staff were identified, compromising the hygiene and functionality of the center. Majumdar assured those present that immediate steps would be taken to address these concerns and improve the overall arrangements, emphasizing the need for cleanliness and efficiency.
Sakhi-One Stop Centre was established to provide holistic support to women facing violence, whether in private or public spaces, within families, communities, or workplaces. The SDO directed the staff to proactively inform victim women about their legal rights, free legal aid, and the benefits of government schemes. This initiative aims to ensure that women in distress are not only protected but also empowered to reclaim their rights and dignity.
The inspection also extended to the Child Helpline, which caters to the rescue and rehabilitation of minors facing exploitation or deprivation of their fundamental rights. Majumdar emphasized the importance of making the helpline more functional and efficient. She appealed to the public to report any cases of child exploitation or neglect to the toll-free number 1098, ensuring timely intervention and appropriate care.
The administration is urging citizens to actively utilize the helpline services to report cases of violence or exploitation. The toll-free numbers for assistance are as follows: Sakhi-One Stop Centre Helpline Number: 9430123165, Toll-Free Number: 181, Child Helpline Number: 1098.
“This surprise inspection underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening support services for women and children. By addressing identified gaps and enhancing awareness, the district aims to ensure that these centers serve as true havens of support and empowerment,” said a social worker.
