Jamshedpur, Dec 20: Police are preparing the ground to conduct intensified checks for drunk driving across all the accident-prone stretches in the city at the year’s end. Stretches where incidents related to drunken driving including fatal accidents that were reported earlier have already been identified. SSP Prabhat Kumar convened a meeting with traffic police at Bistupur Police station.
Besides making special security arrangements, the traffic wing of the district police has ensured smooth vehicular movement and arrangements for parking close to the places crucial to the revelers of year-end as well as the new year.
Things that the police have decided to carry out during the year-end and new year revelry include deployment of static forces at parks and picnic spots, intensifying patrolling, random checking of drunk driving, and surveillance of picnic spots through drone cameras.
The places where the additional police deployment will be made are Jubilee Park and the Dimna Lake area. Apart from these two main spots, police deployment will also be made at Sir Dorabji Tata Park near Keenan Stadium, Bhatia Park in Kadma, Hudco lake and Ghorabandha Theme Park, both in Telco.
Revealing the security arrangement, Kumar said that they would keep a close watch on drunk driving on the roads as well as in the picnic spots and parks.
“Policemen will be making random checks of drunk driving. This is aimed at preventing the people, especially the youngsters from causing nuisance under the influence of alcohol,” Kumar pointed out.
Another official said that they would set up special checking posts at 15 places from 6 pm on Monday till 2 am on Tuesday, during which they will act against drunk driving.
He stated that at Jubilee Park and Dimna 100 static forces will be deployed at each of these spots from 9 am on both the year’s end as well as on New Year. Static forces will also be deployed at Bhatia Park, Hudco lake area, Ghorabandha Theme Park, and Dorabji Tata Park. He said the drone cameras will be used for surveillance at Dimna and Jubilee park where a huge crowd of picnickers tend to assemble on both days.
