Jamshedpur, June 27: Narbheram Hansraj English School (NHES) student Wajahat Shamim has made the city proud by winning an award in the World Environment Day photography competition organised jointly by the British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, Indo-British Scholars’ Association (IBSA) and Earth Day Network.
The theme for this year’s celebration of World Environment Day is ‘Only One Earth.’
The mountain chameleon photo taken by Wajahat Shamim received honour in the junior age group photo contest under category ‘Habitats’.
There were over 430 entries from across India. After much deliberation, the finalists from the Junior and Senior age groups were selected.

The panel of Judges comprised eminent personalities – Yemi Odanye (British Deputy Head of Mission to Kolkata), Karuna Singh (Regional Director Asia, EARTHDAY.ORG) and Ashwika Kapur (National History Filmmaker, Chair Youth Council IBSA).
The School Principal, Paramita Roy Chaudhary, expressed her joy at the achievement and said, “Participating in extracurricular activities helps expose hidden talents in students and leads to all round development.”
It is worth mentioning that the winner in the category was Shreyas Chakraborty of Kolkata.
The winners in various categories were honoured at the British Club Kolkata on Friday, June 3.
