Jamshedpur, Aug 9: Police here claimed to have solved the mystery plaguing the death of a couple, Bhupendra Mandal and Savita, in Manifit Mandal Basti, by tracking down their missing minor daughter and her alleged paramour who allegedly together killed the duo.
Making the revelation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), East Singhbhum, Prabhat Kumar, said the couple was brutally killed by the minor and her paramour, identified as Salit Kumar (37), a driver by profession.
“Salit and the minor had planned to run away on the night the couple was killed. The minor waited for Salit to come to her house to take her along. As the latter came there, she got up from the bed which she shared with her mother. Her father who was lying down on the floor got up and tried to stop his daughter and Salit. After his vehement protest, his daughter gave the hammer to Salit who hit her father on his head, killing him at the scene. Savita also got up and tried to stop her daughter. Salit killed her by hitting her repeatedly with a pressure cooker,” said the SSP.
Bhupendra and Savita were found murdered in their house yesterday morning. A confessional note allegedly authored by their daughter was also found at the crime scene. In the note, the minor had written that she was going to commit suicide and that she had killed her father. She had also claimed that her father had killed her mother and he used to torture her often.
After committing the heinous crime, Salit and the minor fled the scene on a scooty and took shelter in Hariom Nagar, Birsanagar. Police arrested Salit and also took the minor in custody late Monday night. They have recovered the hammer, pressure cooker and Salit’s clothes as evidence.
According to the SSP, Salit befriended the minor some 10 months ago. Till 20 days before the crime, the minor used to stay at a rented accommodation in her neighbourhood. Recently, Salit had shifted to his own house in Birsanagar, he said.
The SSP said Salit and the minor tried to mislead police by leaving the note at crime scene.
