Jamshedpur MP raises Bagbera water woes in Lok Sabha

Jamshedpur, March 25: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Varan Mahato raised the issue of Bagbera Rural Water Supply Scheme in Lok Sabha on Friday.

“The Bagbera Rural water Supply Scheme foundation stone was laid on 18 April 2015 and Rs 237.21 crore Bagbera-Chhota Govindpur Rural Water Supply Scheme was started in the year 2015 with World Bank fund. In the Bagbera-Chhota Govindpur Rural Water Supply Scheme. The plan was to be completed in 2018. Rs 217 crores have been spent in the scheme. Water has started coming from Chhota Govindpur scheme but Bagbera’s plan is incomplete. The agency has stopped work for a year due to the demand of outstanding amount in bill and GST item. Its work was given to the country’s reputed company ILFS (Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited, (ILFS),” said the MP.

The MP also said that the deadline was 26 June 2018 but the construction agency did not complete 25 percent of the work citing its poor financial condition. Now it is being told to complete this scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The work of providing connections to bridges, pipelines and more than 20 thousand houses has been stopped.

He said that due to the interruption of the work of Bagbera Rural Water Supply Scheme the residents have started a padyatra from Jamshedpur to Delhi.

Bidyut Mahto said that the Prime Minister has set an ambitious target of having tap water in every household by 2024. Therefore, he requested the Prime Minister to request the Union Minister, Jal Shakti, so that people can get water from the scheme at the earliest.
