Jamshedpur, July 5: The clogged drain waters that entered several homes in Parsudih’s Makdampur Munshi Mohalla, Mahato Para and Machhua Para thereby creating inconveniences to residents over several days, was finally decongested and cleaned as a motor pump was pressed into service by social worker, former Zila Parishad Vice President and State BJP Kisan Morcha Vice President Rajkumar Singh at his personal expense. Following the cleaning operation, bleaching and anti-larva powder was sprayed in the affected localities. East Singhbhum Zila Parishad Vice President Pankaj and Govindpur Zila Parishad member Dr Paritosh Singh were also present during the entire operation.

Sensing the multifarious hazards of water logging, Rajkumar Singh contacted Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav and Tatanagar Railway Management officials two days earlier and had the drain’s outlet cleared. The job took 20 trained sanitary department personnel 12 hours to clear the blockage while Poklain and JCB were also pressed into service over two days of ceaseless work to clear the stagnant and overflowing drain water. The Tatanagar Railway Management, Tata Steel UISL and JNAC ensured draining out the accumulated water by using five motor pumps round-the-clock.
It may be mentioned that the accumulated rain water had caused the drain to overflow. The water entered 150 residences in the Makdampur localities and accounted for damages to household goods. Several livestock including cattle perished under the circumstances adding to the disconcerting situation. Some families had to shift to safer places. The drains of Parsudih localities are connected to this main drain. Prior to the onset of monsoon, the people’s representatives had taken up the issue of cleaning of the drainage system with the rail authorities but nothing tangible had resulted. Instead, the attitude of the authorities saw to the overflowing drain waters entering streets and homes. The Deputy Commissioner herself took stock of the hazardous situation by going around the affected localities on Saturday, July 1 and assured residents that all measures would be taken to alleviate the conditions at the earliest. Those present during the cleaning operations included BJP Parsudih Mandal President Tridib Chattoraj, General Secretary Devendra Singh, Kisan Morcha District Vice President Nitish Kumar, Santosh Srivastava, Manoj Vishwakarma, Akhilesh Srivastava, Dhanesh Singh Guddu, Rakesh Yadav, Santosh Srivastava, Prem Dubey, Santosh Choubey, Bagge Singh, Upendra, Pran Rai and Mukesh Singh.
