Jamshedpur: A shocking and gruesome incident has rocked the Gamharia area after a man allegedly murdered his own father, raising serious concerns over mental health issues and extreme mobile gaming addiction.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Tayo Colony, where police said a son attacked his father with a sharp-edged weapon, killing him on the spot. The brutality of the crime has left residents stunned and triggered fear across the locality.
Horrifying Scene Leaves Police Shocked
The murder occurred between 4 pm and 5 pm at flat number GF/2 in Tayo Colony. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Ramnath Das, an employee of Tisco Growth Shop, who had recently opted for an Employee Separation Scheme (ESS).
When police arrived at the scene, even seasoned officers were left shaken by the condition of the body and the blood-soaked room.
Extreme Brutality in the Attack
Police said the accused son, Mansa Das, crossed all limits of brutality. The victim’s body was found lying naked on the floor, bearing multiple deep wounds on the head and torso inflicted with a sharp weapon locally known as a davli. The face was severely disfigured, and the private parts were mutilated, making identification difficult.
Accused Arrested from the Spot
A police team led by Sameer Kumar Sawaiya, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Seraikela, along with Gamharia Police, cordoned off the area and arrested the accused from the same blood-stained room. The murder weapon was also recovered.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Suspected Link to Violent Mobile Games
Preliminary investigation has revealed disturbing details. Police suspect that the accused was heavily addicted to violent mobile games and spent hours glued to his phone. Investigators are examining whether he was influenced by dangerous online challenges or violent gaming content.
Neighbours told police that the accused was mentally disturbed and had earlier attempted suicide by jumping from a roof, indicating long-standing psychological issues.
Family Tragedy and Isolation
The family had already faced multiple hardships. The victim’s wife had passed away earlier, while their daughter is married and lives separately. The accused’s wife had also left him due to his aggressive behaviour. As a result, the father and son were living alone in the flat.
Frequent arguments between them were reported by neighbours, but no one anticipated such a horrific outcome.
Police Probe Continues
Police are now conducting a detailed interrogation of the accused to establish the exact motive behind the murder and verify the suspected mobile gaming connection. Investigators are also probing whether the act was premeditated or the result of a sudden psychological breakdown.
Authorities said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
