Jamshedpur MLA Writes to CM to Demand Kurmali Language Teaching Posts at Kolhan University

Jamshedpur: Purnima Sahu, the MLA from Jamshedpur East, has written a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to create and amend academic posts for the Kurmali language at Kolhan University, Chaibasa.

The MLA’s initiative follows a memorandum submitted by the Adivasi Kudmi Samaj Central Committee. In her letter to the CM, Sahu highlighted that while a large number of students have been pursuing Kurmali language studies at the Post-Graduate (PG) department and various constituent colleges of Kolhan University for years, the lack of sanctioned teaching posts is adversely affecting their academic future.

Sahu pointed out that although the State Government had previously approved the creation of posts for tribal and regional languages to ensure their preservation, the current departmental resolutions surprisingly fail to mention the necessary posts for Kurmali.

Key Points Highlighted by the MLA:

  • Official Recognition: Kurmali is the second official language of Jharkhand.
  • National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: The MLA emphasized that the NEP encourages mother-tongue-based education, making the appointment of specialized faculty essential.
  • Administrative Follow-up: Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Principal Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department and the Vice-Chancellor of Kolhan University.

MLA Purnima Sahu urged the Chief Minister to ensure prompt departmental action to provide a quality academic environment for students of regional languages.
