Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy demands budget session of 20 days 

Ranchi, February 11: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has requested the state government to increase the state assembly budget session to 20 working days.

In a media statement issued on Sunday, the former BJP leader has said that as per media reports the government is proposing assembly budget session for 2024-25 for only eight days which would be the shortest budget session of the fifth assembly and has reminded that that budget session will have important discussion on different departments allocation and hence the session should be increased to 20 days.

He has also demanded that the government release white paper on economy.

Saryu Roy has urged the government to extend the budget session till March 22 (before Holi) as it will be the last budget session of the current fifth assembly In the last budget session and the accounts of all the past years should be revealed during the debate before the honorable members. Therefore it is necessary that this budget session should be of at least 18 to 20 days.

“I have received information that in the proposal sent by the government to the Governor to convene the budget session of the Legislative Assembly (2024-25), there will be a budget session of only 8 days. Out of 8 days, one day will be spent in the form of condolence motion, one day in the day of placing the budget before the House and at least one day will be spent in debate on the budget presentation and the third supplementary (23-24) budget which means only 5 days will be left for debate on the budget,” the statement states.

“Major part of the proceedings of one day will be spent on the debate on the personal resolutions of the members. Accordingly, very little time is left to discuss various aspects of the financial position of the state in the final budget session of the government and the fifth assembly,” the statement adds.

“I think that just as the Government of India has presented a white paper on the economy before the country in the budget session of the year 2024-25, similarly the Jharkhand government should also present a white paper on the economy of the state in the last budget session of its tenure. It is known that when it came into power, in the year 2020-21, this government had released a white paper on the economy of the state. It would be practical that a white paper on the state’s economy be presented in the budget session of 2024-25 also,” the statement suggests.
