Jamshedpur, March 13: The path has been cleared for the reinstatement of all contract workers who were removed from the hospitality services (housekeeping) department of the Tata Steel Tube Division in Burmamines following a change of vendor.
The development comes after the intervention of Purnima Sahu, MLA of Jamshedpur East, who took up the issue with the company management.
A meeting was held on Friday at the Tata Steel Legal Services Building in Bistupur, where representatives of the Mukhi community and the affected workers held discussions with company officials.
The meeting was attended by Amit Singh from the Corporate Relations Department and HR representative Shubhra Singh from the Tube Division. During the discussion, the management agreed to reinstate the workers at the earliest.
Also present during the meeting were MLA representative Gunjan Yadav, district president of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha Poresh Mukhi, and BJP Burmamines Mandal president Ritesh Jha.
Notably, around 40 contract workers belonging to the Mukhi community had recently been asked to stop work following a vendor change in the Tubes Division.
In protest, the affected workers from Harijan Basti in Burmamines had staged a sit-in demonstration under the leadership of Poresh Mukhi and other community leaders.
After being informed about the issue, MLA Purnima Sahu intervened and held discussions with officials of Tata Steel’s Corporate Communications Department, urging them to resolve the matter and ensure the reinstatement of the workers. Subsequently, company representatives visited the protest site, received a memorandum from the workers, and assured them that the issue would be resolved by Friday.
Following the positive outcome of the meeting, the workers expressed relief and happiness.
They also conveyed their gratitude to MLA Purnima Sahu and the company management for facilitating a resolution to the issue.
