Jamshedpur, April 17: Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu has raised serious concerns over children’s health amid the intensifying heatwave, urging immediate changes in school timings across the district.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, she requested that all schools switch to morning schedules to shield students from extreme midday heat. With temperatures soaring over 40°C, she noted that the scorching conditions are adversely affecting daily life, particularly posing risks to young children attending school.
Highlighting the vulnerability of students, especially those in lower classes, Sahu emphasized that commuting and attending classes during peak afternoon hours has become increasingly difficult and unsafe.
She also appealed to authorities to ensure timely dispersal so that children can return home before the harsh sun intensifies.
The move is seen as a timely and sensitive step aimed at safeguarding student health during the ongoing heatwave.
