Jamshedpur, Oct 17: Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu visited the potters’ colony at Baradwari on Friday, meeting local artisans and encouraging them ahead of Diwali. During her visit, she purchased earthen lamps and decorative clay items while also trying her hand at the potter’s wheel, shaping diyas herself as a symbolic gesture of support for local craftsmanship.

Adding colours to the diyas, she said it represented “giving life and light through creativity.” MLA Sahu urged citizens to embrace indigenous products this festive season, reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.

“This Diwali, we must strengthen the spirit of self-reliance by choosing locally made goods. Earthen lamps and handmade crafts are not only eco-friendly but also reflect our cultural heritage and traditional skills,” she stated.

Appealing to residents, she said, “Let us decorate our homes with earthen diyas and help bring light to the homes of potters as well. The true meaning of Vocal for Local lies in valuing our artisans and their work.”

Her visit infused enthusiasm among the local potter community, who expressed gratitude for the recognition and support extended by the MLA during the festive season.
