Jamshedpur, Dec 10: The issue of rising industrial pollution in Jugsalai Assembly constituency echoed in the Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday during the Zero Hour session.

Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi highlighted the severe environmental and health hazards allegedly caused by waste discharge from three major industrial units — Telco, Nuvoco, and Tata Power.

Kalindi informed the House that untreated effluents released by these companies have contaminated the water flowing through the Bada Nala, which passes through several localities including Sarjamda, Gadhra, Gobindpur and Khakdipada.

The polluted water, he said, has rendered agricultural activities nearly impossible in these areas, depriving local farmers of their livelihood.

The MLA further stated that the continuous exposure to contaminated water has led to the spread of serious ailments among villagers as well as their livestock.

He urged the government to intervene urgently, take strict action against the responsible companies, and ensure that proper effluent treatment mechanisms are put in place to protect the health and livelihoods of residents.

The issue sparked concern in the Assembly, with demands for a thorough inquiry and immediate corrective measures to curb industrial pollution in the region.
