Jamshedpur Media Cup Cricket: Dimna XI, Kharkai XI win inaugural day’s tourney

Jamshedpur, Feb 12: The inaugural day of Media Cup tournament at Gopal Maidan on Saturday, got off to a flying start with two exciting matches that were witnessed by Union Minister Arjun Munda, Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, MLAs Saryu Roy and Mangal Kalindi along with many veteran cricketers and other excited spectators. Jamshedpur. Central Minister Arjun Munda inaugurated the Media Cup tournament organized by the Press Club of Jamshedpur.

The first match played between Dimna XI and HUDCO XI had many exciting moments. Dimna XI defeated HUDCO XI by 28 runs. Dimna XI scored 118 runs for the loss of two wickets in the allotted 15 overs with Randhir’s 45 ball 56 runs and Asutosh’s contribution of 20 runs in 16 deliveries. HUDCO’s Trilochan Singh and Gulshan shared the two wickets that fell during the Dimna innings. HUDCO, while chasing Dimna’s score of 118 runs, ran out of steam while losing 7 wickets to score 91 runs. Skipper Ratnesh raised hopes for his team played a cameo of 27 runs off 27 deliveries and Gulshan pooled in with 20 but could not contain the Dimna bowlers’ wily deliveries. Buland bagged two wickets for Dimna. Randhir was adjudged player of the match.

In the next match, Kharkai XI finished on top in a nail biting contest against Domuhani XI. Batting first, Domuhani managed to score 85 runs in 15 overs with Sanjay Singh scoring 23 runs and Mukesh adding 19 to his team’s kitty. Abhishek with four wickets and Rajamani scalping two were the wreckers of the Domuhani innings.

 The chase by Kharkai XI had spectators on the edge of their seats as fortunes swung fast and furiously as they overcame the Domuhani challenge by scoring 86 runs. Deep Pal and Jitendra shared the spoils with four wickets apiece but in spite of their efforts could not take their team to the podium. Kharkai team’s Abhishek was adjudged the Player of the Match.

 Earlier, the Media Cup cricket tournament hosted by the Press Club, was inaugurated on Saturday at the Gopal Maidan by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda who played a delivery bowled against him. All guests encouraged the players and urged them to play with the spirit of sportsmanship. The dignitaries present on the inaugural day included, along with MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, MLA Saryu Roy, MLA Mangal Kalindi, Shashi Dhamija Principal Commissioner of Income Tax Jamshedpur, Braj Bhushan Singh, Prashant Singh Putul, Sanjay Mishra, President, Press Club, Sanjay Pandey, Anurag Kashyap, Priyesh Sinha, Anand Kumar, Jaiprakash Singh, Udit Agarwal, Anjani Pandey, NP Nair, Sharad Nair, Krishna Bhalotia, Manoj Yadav, Bailey Bodhanwala, Jaya Singh of RSB Transmission, Shekhar Dey of Sreeleathers, Marina Pagnis, Paromita Roy Choudhary, Rajesh Shukla, Shivshankar Singh and Manoj Yadav among others.
