Jamshedpur, Oct 6: After a continuous rise in Coronavirus death cases in the steel city during the past one month, there has been a decline in tolls giving a ray of hope for the health team. The number of positive cases has also registered a slow down during the past one week.
While 33 deaths were reported in July, figures rose to 167 in August and then in September 118 deaths took place. In October the cases have slowed and till now only 9 death cases have been reported so far. A total of 327 deaths have been reported out of this 86 per cent of them suffering from different diseases.
�There was a time when every day six deaths were being reported the situation continued till the second week of September. While in the last week of September the numbers slowed down to three deaths per day. At present, only two death is being reported with the beginning of October,� said a health official.
The first COVID death was reported on July 4 when two elderly persons, including an 88-year-old woman died in the Tata Main Hospital.
East Singhbhum district civil surgeon Rajendra Jha confirmed that death cases have reduced since the beginning of October. “The recent tread is giving us hope. Even the number of positive cases have also reduced,� he said.
�The Coronavirus is very much in the steel city and in the rural pockets of the East Singhbhum district. But it is for certain that if the people start to pay utmost attention in maintaining social distance, keeping one’s hand sanitised again and again and wearing a mask, the Coronavirus has to go soon,” said Jha.
In view of rising cases of coronavirus in the city, Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar has ordered incident commanders to conduct surprise inspection of those home-quarantined.
Meanwhile, the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients at Tata Main Hospital ( TMH) has improved from 82.38 per cent to 83.16. While last week 246 patients were admitted this week the numbers reduced to 201. The positive sign of improvement is also reflected from the fact that positivity in RT-PCR tests has reduced from to 18.49 per cent and Antigen Test 5.19 per cent to 3.80.
The East Singhbhum district had its first Coronavirus positive case on May 12, exactly four months from now, when a 23-year-old girl and a 27-year-old youth from Chakulia were admitted at the Tata Main Hospital. Since May 12, the Coronavirus continued to spread across the East Singhbhum district and in six months has crossed the 14,000 mark.
