Jamshedpur, Jan 20: West Singhbhum police on Wednesday arrested a GST fraud accused Kamal Rai, an accountant by profession and a resident of Kagalnagar in Sonari area of Jamshedpur, who had been evading arrest for last two years.
Kamal Rai who used to run cost management firm at Kalimati Road in Sakchi had a case lodged against him by GST Chaibasa circle officer, Prithvilal Rai in February 2019.
The accused used to prepare cost management account book of firms and in this connection Chaibasa Sadar SDPO Amar Pandey informed that acting on instruction of West Singhbhum SP Ajay Linda a special team was formed to probe the fraudulent practices done by Kamal Rai and the false information given to IT department.
During probe it was found that there is no such firm of Kamal Rai at Jain Market in Chaibasa and the Chaibasa GST circle officer Prithvilal Rai had lodged a case against Kamal Rai and Rakesh Garg. It was found that both had opened firm in the name of Tirupati Enterprises and Balaji Enterprises at FS Tower in Chaibasa and had embezzled crores of money by showing tax liability as zero.
Kamal Rai had shown Tirupati Enterprises and Balaji Enterprises offices as his own and done registration of VAT and shown tax liability as zero for three consecutive years and in the process cheating government of huge money. They had then closed the firm and escaped in order to evade paying tax.
