Jamshedpur: In a tragic incident, properties worth crores of rupees were reduced to ashes as a fire broke out late on Monday night at an industrial unit in Adityapur industrial area. The fire, which engulfed Tata Motors Ltd ancillary unit, Soma Puf Metal Pvt Ltd, located at phase-1 in the industrial area, was brought under control after a strenuous effort by five fire-tenders from Adityapur and Jamshedpur.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire originated from a short circuit around 10 pm, swiftly spreading across the unit. Despite the factory workers’ immediate response to extinguish the flames using on-site fire extinguishers, the fire continued its rapid progression, fueled by the presence of combustible fiber materials throughout the factory.
The company management promptly alerted the fire brigades in Adityapur and Jamshedpur, leading to the dispatch of five fire tenders from Tata Steel and Tata Motors in Jamshedpur. The relentless efforts of the firefighting teams managed to bring the raging inferno under control by 2:00 am.
Remarkably, no injuries were reported among the factory workers or emergency responders. However, the ancillary unit suffered extensive damage, with the entire facility being gutted in the fire. The company management is currently assessing the magnitude of the financial loss, which is estimated to be in crores of rupees.
An official from the ill-fated ancillary unit expressed gratitude that there were no casualties despite the significant material losses. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, focusing on the exact cause of the short circuit and the extent of the damage.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of fire safety measures in industrial facilities, as authorities and businesses alike continue to work towards preventing such devastating events in the future.
