Jamshedpur, April 9 : City experienced rainfall while the sky remained overcast throughout the day today with drizzle in some parts of the city. Nearby Ghatshila and Chaibasa experienced around 25mm. Daltonganj recorded 6mm.
Weathermen today warned that another low pressure area originating from the Bay of Bengal and moving in westerly direction would result in widespread rainfall in isolated places over the state during the next 48 hours.
“The low pressure area lay centred close to Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal today. The system which is likely to convert into a well marked low pressure area during next 24 hours would result in a good spell of rain in Jharkhand and neighbouring Bengal,” said a senior official at IMD’s Ranchi Metorological Centre after studing the satellite pictures and analysing the weather chart.
He said that an associated upper air cyclonic circulation has also formed extending upto the mid-tropospheric levels. ” This would trigger widespread rain over the state,” he added.
The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore in Kolkata issued warning of isolated heavy rain over Jharkhand due to the impact of the low pressure while for the next two days, the Met office issued heavy to very heavy rainfall over Jharkhand.
“The low pressure would ensure good showers in both the states. The system would cover entire Bengal and some parts of Jharkhand by tonight,” said a duty officer
The weatherman said that intensity of rainfall will be more in north-west and southern parts of the state. Both, the Ranchi Met Centre and regional meteorological centre in Calcutta predicted rainfall between 70-110 mm in isolated pockets.
According to Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore, heavy moisture feeding from Bay of Bengal due to lowpressure brought about widespread rain.
The duty officer added that the monsoon trough, passing close to Jharkhand through Puri in Odisha and stretched till the Bay of Bengal, created conducive conditions. �The well-marked lowpressure brought about downpour in several parts of Bengal and Odisha as well,� he said.
