Jamshedpur: City police busted a cricket betting hideout in Mango on Wednesday and confiscated cash worth Rs 26.43 lakh, gold and other valuables from the possession of one Parvez Ahmad who was arrested as the kingpin of the racket.
Police raided Ahmad’s house in Phase 2, Sundervan under Mango police station area in the wee hours today. Cops seized 390 grams of gold, 13 mobile phones, two laptops, one tab, ATM cards, bank passbooks, passport, PAN card, driving licence and a car from the possession of the accused.
According to Anoop Birtharay, SSP of Jamshedpur, “A team led by SP City Prabhat Kumar conducted a raid at the residence of the accused and caught him betting on an IPL match red-handed. The accused had been running the betting racket at his home.”
The SSP said police were hopeful of finding more clues about the IPL betting rackets operating in and around the city. The recovery of such a huge amount of cash is a major breakthrough for the city police, he said.
Police have booked Parvez Ahmad under Gambling Act 1867 and Lottery Regulation Act 1998.
