Jamshedpur: In a remarkable display of grassroots sports development, Avtar Singh, a former international cyclist, has dedicated the last two years to training children in the tribal heartland of the Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Working primarily in the villages of Gauri and Pudisali under the Sapada area, Singh’s initiative is providing organized sports exposure to children who previously lacked access to formal coaching. His selfless efforts are not only nurturing raw athletic talent but also instilling a sense of discipline and ambition among the tribal youth of Jharkhand.
As part of ongoing football coaching, children undergoing training for the last month were today felicitated with football jerseys, boosting their morale and enthusiasm. The initiative aims to encourage regular participation in sports and promote physical fitness among rural and tribal youth.
The programme was attended by the village head of Gauri along with other dignitaries and local residents, who appreciated Avtar Singh’s dedication and contribution towards youth development through sports. Speakers highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in steering children away from negative influences while instilling confidence, teamwork, and leadership qualities.
The local community expressed gratitude for the continued guidance and mentorship provided by Avtar Singh, stating that his efforts have created a positive sporting environment in the villages and inspired children to dream of a future in sports.
