Jamshedpur: Independent federations and unions rally against Centre’s anti-labour policies

Jamshedpur, Dec 2: Several federations and unions joined shoulders by forming a united platform, Central Labour Organization, and took out a protest rally against the Centre’s anti-labour policies by organizing a procession from Sakchi Ambagan Maidan to the District Collectorate on Friday, December 2 where the protestors handed over a 31 point letter of demands addressed to the President of India to the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner.

The protestors carried placards and shouted slogans against the Central government including, “Save the citizens — Save the Country.” The rally culminated in a meeting on reaching the DC’s office.

The letter of demands included negating anti-labour code, New National Education Policy, abolition of anti-people provisions in Electricity Amendment Legislation and Forest Conservation Act, increase in minimum wages and minimum pension, ensuring legally guaranteed MSP for farmers, withdrawing privatization efforts and reviving public sector bodies like HEC.

Activists of INTUC, AITUC, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, HMS, FMRAI and several other independent federations and unions formed a combined platform to protest against the anti-labour and anti-people’s policies like price rise, unemployment and those that were framed to favour the corporate houses. One of the protestors termed the Central’s moves as, “Loot of national wealth and attack on life, livelihood and basic rights.” Among the protestors of the joint rally were KK Tripathi, Sanjeev Srivastava, Vishwajit Dev, Vinod Kumar Rai, N Pal, Vinod Lahiri, Dinesh Kumar, Amit Das, Manoj Singh, HM Hiramani, Nagaraju, T Mukherjee, Vikram Kumar, SN Singh, Subrata Biswas , Sanjay Kumar and many others.
