Jamshedpur: For the first time, under the banner of the East Singhbhum Netball Association, a one-day netball training camp and exhibition match was held at the People’s Academy Plus Two High School premises in New Baradwari.
Players from eight schools, both boys and girls, participated in the event, which marked the introduction of netball in the district.
The event was inaugurated by the school’s principal, Chandradeep Pandey. In his address, Pandey expressed his enthusiasm for the sport, noting its growing popularity in India, particularly in several states, and its global appeal. He highlighted that this was the first time netball had been organized in the East Singhbhum district and predicted its rise in popularity among local schools and colleges in the near future. He congratulated the players and the organizing committee for their efforts and extended his best wishes for future success.

Former education officer and MLA representative, SP Singh, also attended as a special guest. He praised the players, trainers, and teachers for their dedication to the event, congratulating them on its success.
The training camp featured a comprehensive introduction to the game, with chief trainer W. Rehman, District Secretary Rajesh Thakur, M. Arshad, and sports trainer Priya Dutt teaching players the rules and finer points of netball. The second half of the day saw enthusiastic participation in exhibition matches between the boys’ and girls’ teams from the participating schools.

The event was lauded for its organization, with special thanks given to Principal Chandradeep Pandey, District Netball Association Secretary Rajesh Thakur, Treasurer and Vice President Shyam Kumar Sharma, as well as trainers W. Rehman, Pramod Pandey, Priya Dutt, and M. Arshad from Ghatshila for their roles in making the event a success.
Over 80 players, along with eight coaches and technical officers, participated in the camp. Following Durga Puja, district-level competitions are planned, featuring teams from around 15 schools from both urban and rural areas. The dates and venue for these competitions will be announced soon.
