High Alert in Jamshedpur: Interpol Warns of Terror Threat; Security Tightened

Jamshedpur: Security agencies in Jamshedpur have been placed on high alert following a crucial intelligence input received from Interpol indicating a possible terror threat in the city and nearby areas. Acting on the alert, the Jharkhand Police Headquarters has directed district authorities to tighten security arrangements and intensify surveillance.

According to intelligence sources, sleeper cells may be active in and around Jamshedpur and could be planning a major incident. Following the input, senior police officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police, have taken charge of security operations across the city, said media reports.

The main suspect under surveillance is Syed Mohammad Arshiyan, a resident of Mango’s Azadnagar area. Interpol has already issued a Red Corner Notice against Arshiyan at the request of the Central Bureau of Investigation. Security agencies suspect his links with the Al-Qaeda network. His name also figures in the Delhi Police’s most-wanted list. His brother, Mohammad Zeeshan, is currently lodged in a Delhi jail in connection with terror-related activities. Both brothers were earlier linked to a 2016 Odisha case involving the arrest of Al-Qaeda operative Abdul Rehman Qatki.

In response to the alert, security has been significantly tightened at sensitive locations, including Tatanagar Railway Station, bus stands, major markets, malls, and industrial areas. Intensive checking is being carried out at hotels, lodges, and guest houses, with special focus on unidentified and suspicious individuals. Vehicle checking has been intensified at entry and exit points of the city, while police and intelligence personnel in plain clothes have been deployed in crowded areas.

The district administration has appealed to citizens to remain calm and not fall prey to rumours. People have been urged to immediately inform the police or the control room if they notice any suspicious person or unattended object.

Police officials stated that they are in constant coordination with Interpol and central agencies and that comprehensive security measures are in place to deal with any situation.
