Jamshedpur grapples with severe water crisis

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, April 29: For the past two months, 23 areas in Mango have been grappling with a severe water crisis, despite concerted efforts by the Municipal Corporation. Despite the corporation’s deployment of water tankers for regular supply, the demand continues to outstrip the available resources, leaving residents parched.

The root of the crisis lies in the non-supply of 40 MLD water from the Mango Water Supply Scheme, exacerbating the situation despite officials’ efforts to find a solution. With no immediate remedy in sight, the corporation is banking on rainfall to replenish underground water levels and rejuvenate faulty pipelines.

Approximately 12 thousand residents in the affected areas are bearing the brunt of the water scarcity, resorting to purchasing water due to the dire situation. The depletion of groundwater levels has particularly affected regions like Shankosai, Kisto Nagar, Baganshahi, and others, leading to the failure of borewells and hand pumps.

In response, the corporation has intensified tanker water supply to the affected zones, prioritizing areas grappling with acute shortages. Ranjit Lohra, Suburban Commissioner, underscored the severity of the situation and provided contact information for residents in need of assistance:

For water assistance, residents can reach out to various contacts in Jamshedpur and Mango. Jamshedpur Access can be contacted at 6201990399.
