Jamshedpur, Nov 30: The Joint Gram Sabha of Chandil block have demanded immediate release of the two female wild elephants ‘Champa’ and ‘Rajani’ kept in chains by the forest department at the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary in Makulakocha.
Gram Sabha members Sukhlal Paharia and Anoop Mahato have raised questions on the style of functioning of the forest department and demanded immediate release of the pachyderms from confinement. They threatened to launch a massive agitation with the help of local villagers in case the elephants were not unchained and released
Paharia said the elephants had become weak and sick and that now they should not be kept in chain as it would further aggravate their health and well-being.
