Jamshedpur, April 14: Unidentified criminals snatched a gold chain from one Rekha Sharma in Kanchan Vihar at Sankosai on Thursday, police said.
The criminals managed to take only a portion of the gold chain as it broke off during snatching, sources said.
According to sources, Rekha Sharma, a resident of Patel Path, Mango, was waiting at the doorstep of one Harendra Nath Jha in Kanchan Vihar locality after pressing the doorbell. Just then two unidentified men came from behind and pulled her gold chain in a bid to snatch it. As Rekha held her chain with her hands, it broke into two parts. The culprits escaped with just a part of the chain, she told police.
Rekha told cops she had gone to Jha’s house to distribute Gayatri Parivar’s monthly magazine.
Police registered a case in this connection and began a probe into the incident. The snatching incident was caught in a CCTV camera installed in Kanchan Vihar, sources said.
Local BJP leaders visited Kanchan Vihar and demanded police action against the looters. They said four gold chain loot incidents have taken place in Mango in the last 15 days. They said they would take up the matter with the Jharkhand DGP to demand measures to improve the law and order situation in the city.
