Jamshedpur: Girl takes poison to prove love, dies

Jamshedpur, March 5: In order to prove her true love, Riya Panda, a class 10 student consumed poison. Her boy friend, Partho Panda had asked her to consume poison to prove her love for him.

A resident of Kadma Bhatia Basti, Riya’s father Sanjay Panda stated that his daughter was pursuing her class 10 studies while staying at her grand parents’ house in Purulia and it was during that period she came to know Partho Panda and both wanted to get married to each other.

Elaborating further, Sanjay Panda stated, “Riya, after consuming poison was rushed for treatment to Purulia Sadar Hospital. My daughter, in her statement had mentioned that she was in love with Partho panda. Partho, on February 26 had rung her up and told her that if she (Riya) really loved her, she should prove it by consuming poison. Riya then consumed poison.”

After learning about his daughter’s critical condition, Sanjay Panda went to Purulia and got his daughter released from the hospital there and brought her to Jamshedpur and admitted her to MGMC Hospital for further treatment. Riya died in the course of treatment on March 4. The police has sent her body for autopsy to MGM College.

Meanwhile, Riya’s father, Sanjay Panda has filed a written complaint and accused Purulia-Bankura Dhwajamnipur resident Partho Panda for abetting his daughter’s suicide.
