Jamshedpur, Nov 24: Awantika Gautam, class 9 student Kerala Public School (KPS), Kadma has entered the finals of Prof. Brahma Prakash Memorial Materials Event BPMME 2020 conducted by Indian Institute of Metals, Kalpakkam Chapter.
The final will be held on 28th of November. Her essay on ‘The Green Initiatives for Metal Industries’ has been shortlisted.
It is a matter of pride for the school and Jamshedpur as her article got placed as one of the eight essays all over India. She wrote on the various measures to be taken to tackle the problem of pollution in the industries.
Through the essay she presented a wonderful idea of an artificial tree which would absorb all the toxic and obnoxious gas and in return release clean air into the atmosphere. She has also highlighted the various measures that have been taken by Tata Steel to solve the problems of pollution in Jamshedpur city. Considering the consequences of health hazards, primarily, the lung infections due to COVID attack, it becomes a sin qua non for us to take care of our environment.
The event is being organised by Indian Institute of Metals, Kalpakkam Chapter, C/O Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. The entire programme is scheduled- online, keeping the security in view in the pandemic – times.
There will be an elocution round followed by a lively Rebuttal by the eminent members of the jury. All together, eight essays have been selected all over India for the finals. Many eminent scientists like Dr. R .Chidambaram, Dr. C.G.K Nair, Prof S. Ranganathan, Dr. P.K. Iyengar, Prof Krishnan Balasubramanian and many more dignitaries will be present to witness the finals.

Awantikahas also bagged the Third position in the elocution round for Prof. S.N. Sinha award conducted online by Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) in Jamshedpur on 7th November, 2020. She got the third place in the entire state of Jharkhand. Students of 10 schools had participated in the same; There were two rounds- first was the elocution round in which 10 students were selected in which 2 students from KPS Kadma Awantika Gautam and Amisha Nag qualified- an overwhelming moment for KPS Kadma. In the next roundAwantika secured the third position with a cash award of Rs 2000/ and was selected for the Finals. The elocution was judged by Meeta Tarafdar, Chief guest Dr .M. Tarafdar of CSIR – NML Jamshedpur, Dr. Ashok Kumar of NIT Jamshedpur and Dr. A.N. Bhagat of IIM chapter .
Director of KPS SharatChandran and Principal of the school, Sharmila Mukherjee have conveyed their good wishes to Awantika Gautam for her Elocution in the finals. She is being guided by her mentor, Dr. Shweta Sharma who is a senior faculty in the Department of Physics. KPS Kadma fraternity have extended their warm wishes to Awantika as she will be one of the eight participants who have qualified at the National level and only participant from Jharkhand. The event will be graced by Dr. U. Kamachi Mudali, as the Chief Guest on 28th Nov. He is a former distinguished scientist, DAE and Chairman and Chief Executive, Heavy Water Board Department of Atomic Energy, Mumbai and immediate Past President, Indian Institute of Metals.
