Postal department to launch CBS in the state

Jamshedpur, Dec 24: The city will soon be getting two new departmental post offices, the preparations for which are almost complete.

The postal department has set March 31 as deadline for the launch but most probably it will be launched in the last week of January or first week of February, said Chief Post Master General S Prasad while addressing a press conference at Main Post office today.

Prasad further said that one post office will be opened in Pardih area as Pardih post office while the second New Civil Court post office. The Pardih post office will be delivery office while New Civil Court will be non delivery but will be fully computerized, added Prasad.

Postal department will also launch its core-banking services in 454 post offices of Jharkhand in the next four months, said Prasad.

The services, which was first launched in Chennai early this month, will be launched in the state as part of the second phase of its implementation, he said.Core-banking services will be first implemented in six circles of the department across the country as a pilot project and will then be done in its remaining 22 circles, AS Prasad, Chief Post-Master General, Jharkhand, said.

Prasad said the anywhere-anytime banking services will cover all 454 post offices in the state within four months of its implementation, which was expected to start in the next fiscal.The Data Centre of the project is already functional in Mumbai, he said.

Prasad described the initiative as world’s largest roll- out covering 26,000 post offices across the country in a year’s time.

Apart from core-banking services, the department has also launched International Financial System, a money movement and payment service on the lines of Western Union and Moneygram, and has signed a bilateral agreement with UAE and France while negotiation was on with other countries like Canada, European nations and Thailand.

About the performance of the department in Jharkhand, Prasad said it needed improvement while appreciating the performances of the Jamshedpur circle and added that one post office at Pardih and a non-delivery post office near new civil court in Jamshedpur will be established by the end of this fiscal.

Prasad said the postal department was in negotiation with Jharkhand State Electricity Board for distribution and collection of electricity bills through the department.
