Jamshedpur, Aug 7: A shocking incident unfolded in the Ulidih police station area of Mango on Monday morning, leaving a 26-year-old youth, Manish Yadav, critically injured after being shot by an illicit neighbour. The attack, characterized by its brazenness, took place at Ramnagar Chowk on Road No 5 in Sankosai. Manish, who sustained bullet wounds to his shoulder and lower abdomen, was rushed to MGM Medical College Hospital before being shifted to Tata Main Hospital for specialized treatment.
At around 10 am on Monday, a tumultuous scene erupted near Ramnagar Chowk as a group of four to five intoxicated youths caused a disturbance in front of Manish’s residence. Perturbed by their behavior, Manish confronted the group, leading to a confrontation. In a horrifying turn of events, one of the individuals, identified as Vikrant Kumar, produced a pistol and unleashed a hail of bullets, with two of them striking Manish.
As the assailants fled the scene, Manish lay wounded and bleeding on the ground, a stark testament to the escalation of violence in the neighborhood.
According to witnesses, individuals like Vikrant and Vipul had been a recurring source of trouble at Ramnagar Chowk, often under the influence of alcohol. Residents had repeatedly raised concerns over their illicit activities, including the production of country-made liquor in Sankosai. However, despite numerous complaints to the Ulidih police station , the police failed to address the issue, emboldening the antisocial elements.
Kundan Kumar, an eyewitness, lamented the lack of action by the police, stating, “We had complained about such activities to the Ulidih police station several times, but the police did not take any action against the liquor mafia at all. As a result of the police inaction, the emboldened anti-social elements launched the gun-shot attack.”

In response to the incident, Ulidih police station OC Sonu Kumar affirmed that the assailants were indeed neighbours of the victim, suggesting an existing enmity as the motive behind the attack. He reassured the public that the police had identified the individuals involved and were actively pursuing their arrest.
“The firing incident took place in sequel to old enmity. We have identified those involved in the attack. They would be arrested soon,” declared the OC, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of security to the affected community.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgency to address lawlessness and illicit activities, underscoring the imperative role of law enforcement in safeguarding the peace and well-being of the residents. As the investigation unfolds, the city watches closely, awaiting justice and a renewed sense of safety.
