Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur FC will renew their Indian Super League rivalry with NorthEast United FC when the two sides meet in an away fixture on March 15.
The matchup has produced several closely fought contests over the years. Since Jamshedpur FC joined the league in 2017, the two teams have faced each other 17 times. Jamshedpur FC holds the advantage with seven wins, while NorthEast United FC has recorded four victories. Six matches have ended in draws.
Memorable Playoff Victory
One of the most memorable meetings between the two sides came during last season’s playoff clash. Jamshedpur FC secured a 2–0 win to reach the semi-finals.
Defender Stephen Eze opened the scoring, while Javi Hernandez sealed the victory with a dramatic stoppage-time goal that sparked celebrations among the home supporters.
Eze has remained a key figure for Jamshedpur this season. The Nigerian defender has delivered solid performances in defence and has also scored important goals.
Strong Start to the Season
Jamshedpur FC have enjoyed an impressive start to the current campaign under head coach Owen Coyle. The team has won all four of its opening matches and currently sits second in the league table with 12 points.
They are level on points with leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant, with only goal difference separating the two sides.
Despite the strong start, Coyle expects a challenging match against NorthEast United FC. The Scottish coach said his players must maintain focus and intensity if they want to extend their winning run in the league.
