We have players of very good pedigree, says Men of Steel CEO Mukul Choudhari

ISL: The Champions of India are back home in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, August 19: Jamshedpur FC would like to do an encore and has thus stitched out a squad with players of good pedigree for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season.

With the 25-member squad in place, the Tata Steel-owned club has changed gears to conduct the pre-season for allowing players, including six foreigners, to get tuned up for the cash-rich tournament. The 6-week pre-season is scheduled at the Flatlet greens in Kadma from August 20. ISL is tentatively slated to unfold in the second week of October.

“The pedigree of our players is very good. The team strength is also good. We did very well in the last season and would like to continue with the form in the upcoming ISL,”said Jamshedpur FC CEO Mukul Choudhari.

Talking to journalists at JRD Tata Sports Complex Friday morning, he said they have stitched out a strong squad with consultation of head coach Aidy Boothroyd. The head coach has studied the players, including the foreigners, before the squad was finalized. “We are very positive about our performance in the ISL,”Choudhari added..

According to him, head coach Boothroyd has dropped anchor in the city while the Indian and their offshore counterparts would follow suit. “We will also be playing some friendly matches as part of pre-season. The friendly will also be played against Jamshedpur Sporting Association All Star Team as it would allow the head coach to spot talents. It would also create local buzz ,” the JFC CEO informed.

Some of the players have already arrived in the steel city.

“It feels significant to have our players back at the steel city. The last two years have been very tough for all of us. We won the shield but couldn’t celebrate it properly with the fans. It’s a moment of joy to finally have the squad back where they belong which is at home in Jamshedpur. We are looking forward to a fantastic season and to have the joyous and vociferous fans in the Furnace for every home game,” Choudhari said.

On head coach Boothroyd, Choudhari said they went through profiles of some candidates before zeroing in on the Englishman. ” We are happy with the profile of our head coach and are hopeful of a positive result,” he added.

Speaking on the players arrival Aidy said, “It feels great to see the squad here. I am very excited to get back to the field with this bunch. We have top notch facilities here in terms of the training field, floodlights, gymnasium, our accommodation, etc. We are planning to start our training sessions in the next few days and will have a 6 week pre-season with 6-7 friendly games. We have to work hard for the long season ahead and am looking forward to building up a good rapport with the players and staff”
