Jamshedpur FC appoints Khalid Jamil as head coach for rest of the season

Jamshedpur: In a strategic move, Jamshedpur FC has officially announced the appointment of Khalid Jamil as the Head Coach for the remaining matches of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season. The experienced AFC Pro Licensed Coach will commence his tenure with Jamshedpur FC at the upcoming Kalinga Super Cup in January.

Khalid Jamil holds a prominent position in Indian football, having excelled both as a player and a highly successful manager. Notably, he is the first Indian to serve as the permanent Head Coach of an ISL team and the sole Indian coach to guide a team to the ISL playoffs. His illustrious career includes winning the I-League Best Coach Award for the 2016–17 season with Aizawl and the FPAI Indian Football awards: Coach of the Year (2020–21) with North East United FC.

Jamshedpur FC CEO, Mukul Choudhari said, “I welcome Khalid Jamil, a coach with thorough experience in ISL and ILeague. We have everything to play for with the Kalinga Super Cup and half of the ISL remaining. Hence, we believe he has the understanding, experience and track record in Indian Football to build and take us forward, starting with the very next game.”

Khalid’s ISL journey began with NorthEast United, where he initially served as the Head of Academy in 2019-20. His breakthrough came in the 2020-21 season when he assumed the role of interim head coach, leading the team to the playoffs with an impressive 10-game unbeaten streak. Recognizing his achievements, Khalid was subsequently appointed as the permanent head coach for the 2021-22 season, a historic move for an Indian coach in the ISL.

Expressing his delight at joining Jamshedpur FC, Khalid said, “Our target is to bring Jamshedpur FC in a better position, and for that, we all must work hard to bring Jamshedpur on top.”

Addressing the passionate fans of Jamshedpur and Jharkhand, Khalid urged continuous support, stating, “Keep supporting Jamshedpur FC; we need your support in every match, more than ever.”

Khalid Jamil will assume his role immediately, with the first challenge being the Kalinga Super Cup match against NorthEast United FC on January 10th in Bhubaneswar.
