Jamshedpur, May 29: The family of Sarathi Mahato, resident of Burudih village under Nimdih police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan, returned to their native place after a gap of several days here on Sunday.

Sarathi’s family was ousted from the village in the year 2020 after being accused of practicing witchcraft by the villagers. The villagers often threatened the family and also caused harm to them in various ways. Sarathi’s house was burnt by the villagers on 26th May last. All his belongings were gutted in the fire, sources said.

Padma Shri Chhutni Mahato reached the village with the officer in-charge of Nimdih police station, Amit Gupta, and went to Sarathi’s house. The villagers were also called to welcome Sarathi and his family members and made aware of their duties and mistakes. After being educated on the need to do away with superstitious beliefs and animosity, the villagers apologized to Sarathi and his family members and took a pledge to never repeat the mistake. A compromise letter was also signed by the villagers in front of Nimdih police officials, sources said.
