Jamshedpur entrepreneur transforms cow dung into eco-friendly paint, products showcased at Swadeshi Mela

Jamshedpur: In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Jyoti Bala from Adityapur has introduced eco-friendly paint made from cow dung. Departing from conventional chemical-based paints, this initiative not only champions indigenous technology but also fosters employment for 120 families in the vicinity. The ‘ Prakritik Paint,’ crafted under the brand Surdeeb, sourced locally from Hathimara village in Seraikela Kharsawan district, promises a myriad of benefits. These include anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties, natural thermal insulation, cost-effectiveness, and being free from heavy metals and toxins.
Partnering with Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and taking up a loan, the venture operates from a 4000 square feet plant, producing 500 liters of paint daily. Jyoti Bala emphasizes the simplicity of the paint’s preparation process, using cow dung, water, corn flour, street oil, and natural gum extracted from trees. The initiative not only supports employment but also promotes cow rearing among villagers.
Moreover, with 956 shades on offer, the paint finds favor among consumers for its odorless application and remarkable cooling effect on interior spaces. Jyoti Bala’s husband, Manoj Kumar, stands beside her in this eco-conscious endeavor. As the venture gains traction, Jyoti Bala advocates for governmental support to scale up cottage industries, offering promising employment prospects for the youth. The plant’s inauguration on March 7 marks a significant step towards sustainable living and community empowerment in Jamshedpur and beyond.
