Jamshedpur, Nov 4: A year after the incident of violence that occurred during last year’s Chhath festival at the Surya Mandir complex in Sidhgora, 24 persons, including eight more members of the Surya Mandir Committee and supporters of independent legislator Saryu Rai, were granted bail on Saturday. Chandragupt Singh along with Sushant Panda, Bhupendra Singh, Kamlesh Kumar Singh, Himanshu Arvind alias Gunjan Yadav, Kanchan Singh, Biswajit Kumar and Sandesh Chaudhary surrendered before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mayank Maliya, who granted them bail.
It may be mentioned that the clash between the two rival groups was a sequel to the construction of a stage for cultural events at the Surya Mandir premises during the Chhath Puja celebration on October 28, 2022. Both parties had filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against each other at the Sidhgora police station. Vijay Shankar Pathak represented the defense in this case.
