Jamshedpur, Sep 29: The administration has issued a warning against objectionable social media posts during the festive season.
Addressing the media, SSP Prabhat Kumar said that action will be taken against those who post objectionable comments and pictures on social media platforms. He said that the police are keeping a vigil on social media. The police have issued helpline numbers 7091091825 and 9508280796.
“We have issued a circular against objectionable posts. We have put social media under scanner. Those indulged in criminal activities in the city refrain from committing crime and lead a peaceful life, otherwise action will be taken against them , “said Kumar.
He warned the criminals not to take the police for granted.
” I warn criminals not to take the police for granted. If any of them are also caught with fire-arms, then we will take stern action against the person involved. Arms-checking will be intensified in the next few days and the offenders will have to face jail terms if caught with the fire-arms,” said the senior police officer.
An official said that social media will be under scanner due to recent spreading of rumours via various social media platforms on the occasion of Durga Puja.
He said that in the recent past several incidents took place in the city due to rumours spreading on networking sites. This time the police will ensure that such messages are put under scanner and those found guilty are taken into task. A strict vigil will be kept on such sites. He also released an appeal to the citizens requesting them not give air to any such rumours.
In the circular Jamshedpur Police said : “All the district residents are appealed not to post any kind of factless, misleading, false and violent, objectionable, inflammatory messages and videos on social media platforms WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.Check the facts before sharing any post.
Police are keeping a close watch on those posting such messages and videos and they are being identified, necessary legal action is also being taken against them.
All group admins of groups created on social media should not have such posts in their respective groups. Otherwise legal action will be taken against them.
Do not pay attention to any kind of factless rumours. Information about those who posted inflammatory messages and videos or any other information or information, call the nearest police station or mobile / WhatsApp number 7091091825 / 9508280796 on WhatsApp or 100/112, so that necessary legal action will be taken against anti-social elements.
The identity of the person giving information will be kept confidential.
