Jamshedpur, Sep 19: The district administration has stressed on cleanliness and safety during Durga Puja celebration in the city. It has asked all puja committees to pay special attention to keep the city clean. The district administration has also selected locations for immersion which will take place on October 5.
“Cleanliness is the most important thing during Puja days. I would urge the organisers to focus on that. It will be of great help if the organisers cooperate with us,” said NK Lal, ADM ( law and order).
He also requested the puja committees to keep dustbins for garbage disposal and ensure cleanliness in and around the puja premises.
As far as safety measures are concerned, the district administration has asked the committees to deploy volunteers to keep an eye at the proceedings.
The Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti (JDPKS) has asked the committees to stay away from forced donations from traders and residents. The committees were also asked to be prepared to combat any emergency including fire safety.
Ram Babu Singh, a senior functionary of JKDPS said the members of the organisation have been directed to ensure cleanliness near their campuses. Complains of garbage accumulating near pandals and waste thrown here and there have been received last year. The officials of puja committees need to keep it clean.
The official also said that they would take up the issues of cleaning and developing the Subernarekha ghats with the district administration so that the immersion of the idols is held in a clean environment.
“We have also decided to ensure that no forcible donations are taken from the people. If we receive any complaints we would definitely act against that particular puja committee,” noted Singh.
The Samiti like last year has asked the puja committee to only play devotional songs at a decent decibel level which is not a problem to visitors or the residents nearby. Loudspeakers must be stopped after10 pm as per the district administration guidelines. The samiti will also hold seven zonal meetings with the district administration on Puja preparations next month.
“We will ask Jusco for cranes to lift heavier idols for immersion. Cleanliness of the ghat is also on the list which we would request to Jusco and JNAC with civic bodies,” said an assistant secretary of Samiti.
According to information, puja committees would be asked to make elaborate arrangements to ensure security and cleanliness and hygiene at their respective campuses. The quality of food and other eateries served near the campuses of puja pandals should be proper so that the devotees.
“Last year we received a number of complaints of unhygienic food served during the festival. I think the office bearers of puja committees should ensure that they put a check on the vendors,” said a senior member of Samiti.
