Jamshedpur, Sept 22: Doctors lifted their four day old strike on Friday after four persons among those accused of assaulting a doctor on duty at MGM Hospital were arrested.

With doctors returning to their duties, normalcy was restored with OPD services back in full swing. There was widespread relief among patients at the hospital.

The Secretary of IMA Jamshedpur chapter, Dr Saurabh Chaudhary announced the end of the strike and mentioned that the police had apprehended two individuals involved in the assault on Thursday night. However, at that time, the arrests had not been officially confirmed.

On Friday morning, the news of four accused in the incident of assault on an MGM Hospital medic was confirmed and, as such, the IMA Jamshedpur Secretary stated that the strike had been called off. Dr Saurabh Choudhary assured that police pickets would be set up within the hospital premises to ensure safety of doctors.

It may be mentioned that a patient, Anu Pradhan of Devnagar under Sitaramdera PS, died in the course of treatment at MGM Hospital on Monday night. This led to enraged relatives of the deceased physically assaulting the medic on duty, Dr Kamlesh. The assault on their colleague led infuriated doctors to cease work and go on strike and they received support from the nursing staff. The strike assumed a state level call until it was called off on Friday after the arrest of four accused in the incident. Those arrested include Santosh Karmakar, Ravi Karmakar, Akash Tanti, and Bharat Pradhan.
