Jamshedpur: Disabled children show their skills in sports

Abhaya Banerjee Foundation organises 12th annual sports competition

Jamshedpur, Feb 9: The 12th annual sports competition for children with disabilities was held on February 9, at Sumant Moolgaonkar Stadium, Telco.

Organised under the aegis of the Abhaya Banerjee Foundation, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various schools catering to special children.

The competition was inaugurated with a flag-hoisting ceremony by Chief Guest Ajitesh Monga, Sr. GM Tata Cummins Jamshedpur. Special guests Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Chief Consultant, HOD Medicine Tata Motors Hospital,Jamshedpur, Phanindra Bhusan Mishra, General Manager, Supply Chain Management, Tata Cummins and and Uma Nagavelu, Manager, Human Resources, Tata Cummins, were also present.

In his address, Chief Guest Ajitesh Monga expressed his appreciation, saying, “This is the first time I have witnessed such a well-organized event for special children. It was a privilege to be part of this program and meet the talented children. Abhaya Banerjee Foundation is doing remarkable work for the welfare of special children. My best wishes are with them.”

Participating schools included Asha Kiran School, Siddheshwar Deaf and Dumb School, National Association for Blind, Start, Gyanodya Nobel Academy, PATH, SOB, and Divya Jyoti Blind Institute. Around 95 students from various schools participated in a total of 27 track and field events.

The competition was divided into two sessions. Fifteen events were held in the morning, while 12 were conducted in the afternoon. Participants were categorized by age—below 15 and above 15 years—and further grouped based on their physical abilities for fair competition. Track events included 50m, 100m, and 200m races, while field events featured shot put, throw ball, standing jump, running jump, and passing the parcel.

Results:

  • 100m Race (Girls, Under 15): 1st – Ganga Shri Das, 2nd – Kajal Kumari, 3rd – Priyanka Kumari
  • 100m Race (Boys, Under 15): 1st – Prince Kalindi, 2nd – Anshu Kumar, 3rd – Nikhil Sundi
  • 100m Race (Boys, Above 15): 1st – Kalyan Rao, 2nd – Ramu Besra, 3rd – Kushal Shah
  • Shot Put (Boys, Under 15): 1st – Anurag Tantu Bai, 2nd – Anukalp Khemari, 3rd – Tejveer Singh
  • Shot Put (Boys, Above 15): 1st – Ritesh Kumar Singh, 2nd – Akash Pramanik, 3rd – A. Hemnath
  • Running Jump (Boys, Above 15): 1st – Akash Pramanik, 2nd – Anand Barda, 3rd – Devendra Singh
  • 200m Race (Girls, Open Group): 1st – Shweta Kumari, 2nd – Ganga Shri Das, 3rd – Alifa Parveen
  • 200m Race (Boys, Open Group): 1st – Ramu Besra, 2nd – Kaushal Shah, 3rd – Anshu Kumar

Medals, certificates, and gifts were distributed to the winners by the organizing committee. The event was made successful by the support of 20 technical officials led by Shyam Kumar Sharma and sports teacher Subol Chatterjee.

Abhaya Banerjee Foundation President Jahar Banerjee welcomed the guests. The games and stage activities were conducted by Shyam Kumar Sharma, while Barnali Das delivered the vote of thanks. Significant contributions were made by foundation members Uttam Mishra, Rinku Mishra, Anita Paul, Barnali Das, P.A. Banerjee, Anushka Mishra, Manish Jain, Vandana Jain, Ashish Chaudhary, and Sushma Pandey.

The event concluded with a message of encouragement and motivation for the participating children, reaffirming the foundation’s commitment to the welfare and development of special children.
