Jamshedpur: Dimna XI takes Media Cricket Trophy

Nesar Ahmed declared player of the tournament

Jamshedpur, Feb 21: Dimna XI defeated Kalimati XI by 8 wickets in the final to be crowned the winner of the Media Cup Cricket Tournament organised by Press Club of Jamshedpur in Gopal Maidan on Monday, February 21.

Randhir and Abhijeet’s all-round performance was vital in Dimna’s XI’s victory. Randhir played an unbeaten knock of 53 runs in just 40 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. Abhijeet scored 12 runs and Murari contributed 17 not out. Abhijeet was the pick of the bowlers taking five wickets for 16 runs and was declared the man of the match.

Earlier, Kalimati XI captain Raghvendra won the toss and elected to bat. Kalimati scored 103 runs in 17.5 overs. Captain Raghvendra scored 30 runs off 32 balls. Nesar Ahmed added 20 runs in 16 balls with the help of three fours while Prashant contributed 10 runs.

Chasing an easy target, Dimna XI won the match with 41 balls to spare. Prateek Piyush was the only successful bowler for Kalimati XI. He took two wickets.

State Transport Minister Champai Soren was present as the chief guest and City SP Subhash Chandra Jat was guest of honour along with social worker Amarpreet Singh Kale and Shekhar Dey during the closing ceremony.

Nesar Ahmed was awarded the Player of the Tournament. Randhir was declared best batsman while Abhishek won the award for best bowler.

Best catcher award went to Prasenjit while Ashutosh was awarded best wicketkeeper.

Mohammad Akbar was declared the best fielder and Jubilee XI was awarded the best disciplined side.

Jai Prakash Rai of Jubilee XI and Anand Kumar shared 143 run partnership for first wicket and was declared the partnership of the tournament.

For special contribution chairman of the technical committee, former Ranji player KPV Rao, Gopal Maidan in-charge Nageshwar Rao, commentators Shahid Anwar and V Raman were also felicitated.  

President of Press Club of Jamshedpur Prashant Singh Putul, general secretary Anjani Pandey, Manoj Kumar Singh, Nanak Singh, Bhola Prasad and Piyush Mishra were honored for their support in making the event successful.
