Jamshedpur: Dhalbhumgarh Airport important for industry and employment generation: Jayant Sinha

Jamshedpur, September 11:  Hazaribagh MP and former Union minister of civil aviation, Jayant Sinha blamed the Hemant Soren government for delay in starting of the construction work of the Dhalbhumgarh airport.

The foundation stone of the proposed Dhalbhumgarh airport was laid in January 2019 by then chief minister Raghubar Das in the presence of the Jayant Sinha while the new government was elected in December 2019 and sworn in January 2020.

Jayant Sinha, who came on a one-day visit to Jamshedpur on Saturday said in a press conference held at Circuit House that during the previous BJP government, in January 2019,, the foundation stone of the airport construction work was laid and Rs 100 crore was also allocated by the central government under the UDAN scheme.

But as soon as the government changed in the state, the work of airport construction also got stalled.

He said that there is no problem of acquisition of any kind of land for construction work, the state government only has to take the no-objection certificate from the forest department.

“In this regard, the Central Government had advised the state government to appoint a Forest Clearance Consultant (FCC) and submit a proposal to the Environment Appraisal Committee of Union forest ministry for approval of the project. But even after a lapse of two years, the state government is not serious about the construction of the airport, which is unfortunate for the industrial development and employment generation of the region,” said Sinha

Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato said that the construction of the airport will give a new direction to the industrial sector for development. Jamshedpur, Adityapur, Purulia, Kharagpur in Bengal and Balasore industrial areas of Odisha which are near to Dhalbhumgarh. The construction of an airport in the mineral-rich Kolhan region will attract investors to the state.
