Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav has appealed to citizens to report any violation of building norms in commercial and residential constructions in the area. The focus is on misuse of the basement area. The move comes in the wake of increasing incidents of illegal and unsafe buildings that pose a risk to public safety and parking.

According to the communique, the Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the general public that “any type of construction like shop, school, small scale industry, godown etc. has been established in the basement of any residential or commercial building by deviating from the approved design. And if it is in your notice, then immediately inform the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Sub-Divisional Officer Dhalbhum office and JNAC office. Keeping the identity of the informer confidential, legal action will be ensured against the culprits”.

According to information the administration has been receiving complaints and feedback from concerned citizens and stakeholders regarding the flouting of building norms by some developers, builders, and property owners. These violations include unauthorized constructions, deviations from approved plans, and misuse of basements.

“Such violations not only violate the law and regulations but also endanger the lives and properties of the occupants and the nearby residents. They can also lead to ecological damage, traffic congestion, and social unrest. Therefore, it is imperative that the administration and the citizens work together to identify and rectify such violations,” said an official.

The Deputy Commissioner urged citizens to report any suspected violation of building norms to the concerned authorities, such as the local civic body, DC office or SDO . They can do so by submitting a written complaint, an email, or a phone call, providing as much detail as possible, such as the location, the nature of violation, the name of the owner or the builder, and any evidence or proof they may have.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the citizens that their complaints would be taken seriously and investigated promptly, and appropriate action would be taken against the violators, as per the law. The action can range from a warning, a fine, a stop-work notice, a demolition order, or a criminal prosecution, depending on the severity and frequency of the violation.

The administration has also urged the developers, builders, and property owners to comply with the building norms and regulations, and to ensure that their constructions are safe, legal, and eco-friendly. They should also cooperate with the authorities in verifying and rectifying any deviations or violations, and in obtaining the necessary permits and clearances.

The administration’s appeal has been welcomed by many citizens and organizations, who see it as a positive step towards ensuring transparency, accountability, and safety in the construction sector.
