Jamshedpur, Sept 29: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla convened a meeting to review preparations for the host of events going to be organized on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi�s 150th birth anniversary. He said a Sadbhavana Daud (harmony race) would be organized by the Indian Red cross Society, Jamshedpur chapter, at 6 am from Sakchi roundabout to Keenan Stadium on 2nd October.
Shukla said single use plastics would be collected during the harmony race. A number of public events would be organized on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to spread mass awareness on cleanliness and the hazards of single use plastics. Plastics would be collected at different places across the district, he said.
The DC directed all block development officers (BDOs) to organize block level events on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. He said meetings should also be held at panchayat and village levels to spread awareness on plastic hazards. He said the person or agency collecting largest amount of plastic would be felicitated at district level.
The meeting was also attended by deputy development commissioner, district planning officer, district transport officer, district superintendent of education, district agriculture officer, DPRO and other senior administrative officials.
