Jamshedpur, Nov 6: In a daring daytime burglary, thieves targeted two flats at Vijaya Gardens in Baridih under Birsanagar police station on Thursday.

The burglars first attempted to break into a sixth-floor flat but failed to gain entry even after damaging the main door. They then moved to the eighth floor, where they found the flat of Nidhi Singh, a teacher at Telco Valley View School, locked.
Taking advantage of the empty house, the thieves broke open the lock and ransacked all rooms.
They escaped with gold and silver jewellery valued over Rs 50 lakh, alongwith Rs 15,000 in cash.
At the time of the incident, Nidhi Singh was at school, and her children were also away attending classes.
She discovered the break-in upon returning home with her children in the afternoon.
The main door was found broken, and inside, the cupboards and room locks were damaged, confirming the theft of jewellery and cash kept in the bedroom.
Nidhi Singh’s husband said this was not the first such incident in Vijaya Gardens.
About a year ago, three to four flats in the same apartment complex were burgled, but the culprits were never traced.
On receiving information, Birsanagar police reached the spot and called in fingerprint experts to assist with the investigation.
Police are reviewing CCTV footages from the apartment and suspect the thieves had been keeping watch on the area for some time.
The case is currently under detailed investigation.
