Victim rescued from Purulia within 24 hours, ransom of Rs 9 lakh demanded

Jamshedpur, Oct 23: A 62 year-old Ayurvedic medicine seller Tumpu Besra was abducted for a ransom of Rs 9 lakh from Dumaria on 21st October last. Acting promptly, district police recovered him from Joypur in Purulia within 24 hours and arrested four of his abductors.
DSP Mosabani Chandrashekhar Azad said the culprits had called Besra to a place under pretext of seeking his help to treat an ailing person and later abducted him. The accused persons called Besra’s family members and demanded the ransom amount. They threatened to kill the victim in case they failed to get the ransom.
A police team was set up to crack down on the abductors. Cops arrested Chitranjan Mahato, Dayal Paida, Haidar Sah and Kritivas Kalindi alias Rahul from West Bengal and also recovered Besra’s bike from Haidar’s house.
Besra used to perform puja and sell Ayurvedic medicines in his locality. One of the accused, Dayal used to work with him and watch his activities. He joined hands with other accused and Besra’s abduction, cops said.
