Jamshedpur: The court of ADJ-1 Vimlesh Kumar Sahay on Friday delivered its verdict in the case of terror suspects linked to Al-Qaeda in Jamshedpur, acquitting all the accused due to lack of evidence. The three main accused in the case were Maulana Kalimuddin Mujahid of Mango, Mohammad Abdul Rehman Ali Khan alias Maulana Mansoor of Cuttack (Odisha) and Abdul Shami of Dhatkidih.
The case dates back to 2016, when an FIR was registered based on the complaint of then Bistupur police station in-charge Jitendra Singh. Acting on information from the Delhi Special Team, the police interrogated Ahmed Masood Akram Sheikh, a resident of Dhatkidih. During a second round of questioning on January 25, 2016, Masood admitted to being associated with the terrorist organization. Masood disclosed that his first meeting with the group occurred in 2003 in Sakchi, where he met Abdul Rehman alias Katki, who had undergone jihadi training in Saudi Arabia. He further revealed that Raju alias Naseem Akhtar, a resident of Mango, had provided him with weapons and the police later recovered a loaded pistol from Masood’s house.
Investigations also suggested that Kalimuddin’s house served as the organization’s base, from where youth were recruited into the terrorist group. Masood also claimed that Abdul Shami, a resident of Dhatkidih, had undergone terrorist training in Pakistan. A total of 16 witnesses testified in the case.
Despite significant allegations, the court acquitted all the accused due to insufficient evidence. However, the case remains an important reference for security agencies, as it provided crucial insights into terror networks and recruitment strategies.
