Jamshedpur: In a major breakthrough, Jamshedpur police arrested fraud-accused couple Chandrabhushan Singh and Priyanka Singh, directors of Maxis Zone Touch Pvt. Ltd., from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Gomoh Railway Junction on Tuesday morning. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the duo while they were traveling by Tejas Rajdhani Express from Delhi to Bhubaneswar.

Both were brought to Jamshedpur and interrogated at Sakchi Police Station, followed by a medical examination before being remanded to judicial custody. Chandrabhushan, 32, a resident of Damodar village in Bihar’s Vaishali district, and his wife Priyanka, 34, had been absconding since 2022, accused of duping people of hundreds of crores of rupees across India in the name of investments.

The fraud case originated with Sakchi PS Case No. 74/22, registered on April 22, 2022, on the complaint of Sushil Kumar Sarapma, a Telco resident. Since then, multiple cases had piled up against the couple. The police had earlier submitted charge sheets marking them as absconders.

The couple’s criminal history was extensive, with several cases under various IPC sections including cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, and assault:

Case No. 184/22 (Sections 420, 406, 467, 468, 469, 471, 417, 120B, 34)

Case No. 79/23, 231/23, 233/23, 237/23 (Sections 420, 406, 120B)

Police sources revealed that 15–20 other cases were registered against them in Sakchi and other jurisdictions.

The operation was executed under the leadership of Sakchi PS in-charge Anand Mishra, along with a special police team. Officials confirmed that the arrest was possible due to precise secret intelligence regarding the couple’s train journey.

Police officials described the arrest as a significant step in cracking down on large-scale investment frauds and assured further investigation to trace the victims and recover funds. (w/gsd)
