Jamshedpur, June 2: Kadma-Sonari areas of the city have been the worst Covid hit areas. During the second wave in Kadma alone 5102 cases were reported while 117 deaths took place. Mango stood second with 4945 cases and 113 deaths while third place was Sonari with 3963 cases and 87 deaths while Telco was 2133 cases with 43 deaths.
Ravi Bharti, city manager of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee informed that in the past few days around 450 shops were shut at the Kadma market and that the vegetable vendors and fruit sellers were shifted to the adjoining Ganesh Puja Maidan after several positive cases were reported.
During the second wave a total of 31234 positive cases were reported while 654 deaths were reported. Officials informed that rural areas remained safe during this wave. No Covid death has been reported from the areas like Chakulia, Patamda, and Dumaria.
As people continue to violate the Covid-19 guidelines despite severe second wave, Jamshedpur Police launched an awareness-cum-enforcement drive for wearing masks in public places across the city. The drive was led by SSP M Tamil Vanan and City SP Subhash Chandra Jat.
“I appeal to all the residents to wear masks whenever they leave their home. Together, we will defeat Corona,” said SSP Vanan. He said that a mask is a must for everyone while stepping out of home. Mask is not a substitute for a helmet. Both are required while riding.
The drive was aimed to create awareness on social distancing and wearing masks, in market places and busy areas.
A team from district administration also conducted inspections at different check posts against those violating social distancing guidelines. The team was led by NK Lal ADM ( Law and Order) and City SP Subhash Chandra Jat. The administration has come with 37 checkposts.
During the inspection, ADM directed the personnel to ensure that all restrictions are strictly enforced and no complacency shall be accepted which would defeat the purpose of containing COVID-19 virus spread. Despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the administration has observed that not all are following the rules.
“People are avoiding the precautionary measures to be followed to check the spread of the virus. We cannot afford to slip at this moment. We have started a strict enforcement drive,” said the official.
The administration has also made it mandatory for everyone to wear a mask (either three-layered or made of cloth) if they are outside their homes. And those violating this rule are being booked by the police.
